Jenni talks about her role and responsibilities as a Solutions Consultant and gives advice to those looking to start a career in IT.

Getting into the tech industry

I’ve always had a passion for technology, so after I finished school, I started an IT & Telecoms apprenticeship, which led me to where I am today. My role varies from day to day. It can involve customer consultations to plan new telephony requirements, building and deploying these new systems, as well as maintaining them, or I could be training users on how to use their new hardware/software. I also assist the Service Desk with incident investigations or remote customer assistance, so I’m definitely kept busy. My role means that I travel to different places and meet new people daily. No two days are the same, and I really enjoy that.

“I like how each day provides a different mental and physical challenge.”

Investing in people

One of the things that Bistech is passionate about is enabling every employee to enhance their skills. It’s really impressive how everyone across all departments has a great level of technical knowledge, so there’s always someone to ask questions. It’s a great environment to be in.

As part of my personal development, I’ve completed a number of technical training courses to become certified in the systems and products that we offer our customers. I’ve also taken part in courses designed to help with self-confidence and how to work well under pressure. It comes in very handy at times while on site!

Advice for someone looking to start their career in IT

Never be afraid to ask questions! Technology is always changing and evolving, so the more questions you’re prepared to ask, and the more hands-on you’re willing to get, the more you’ll learn.
